GERA (GOVERNANCE OF EXTRATERRESTRIAL RESOURCE EXTRACTION) - FALMOUTH UNIVERSITY

For my final submission at Falmouth University my task was to pick a topic we were passionate about, where we would pick a project of our choosing. It ideally needed to something we were passionate about that had scope to answer a developed research question.

My theory led project focused on resource extraction within outer space, and how the current laws around this remain ambiguous and outdated. From my research and through speaking to PDH students studying space law, philosophers, and artists, I was able to produce a hypothetical organisation that would manage and distribute resources in space for a multi-planetary species.

I thought this project idea was creative and original, where it sounds like a strange topic to be researching, but it’s one that will become ever more important in the next century.

The creation of this website involved developing a logo, design system, wireframes, and finally an interactive website. Which can be viewed here.

Alongside this I also created a mini podcast series, here I spoke with the previously mentioned individuals on a range of subjects. From the current laws around space, the philosophy of space colonisation, and whether we should be searing for life beyond Earth. These can either be viewed on Spotify.
